SMEG Vintage

This fridge has been on my wish list for the longest time.  I always wanted to have one even when we were still residing in the Philippines.  At that time it just doesn't go with our kitchen and even now.  I guess the only time I'll ever get one of these is when we move to a new place or renovate the entire kitchen just for this cool vintage looking refrigerator.
The red is such a beauty and it stands out but I like the green one better.  These vintage beauties also comes in pastel colors from blush baby pink to pastel green and will cost you  from S$2000-S$3000.
Pink is pretty cute too.
Love the pastel green!
They remind me of the Le Creuset Pots I want.

Brotzeit German Bier Bar & Restaurant

Another post that's been brewing in my draft folder.  I'm actually a month behind and this should have been posted during the hype of Transformers. Hubby and I watched it in the morning at Vivo City around 10:30 so it's just nice to grab a bite to eat after the movie.

We decided to try Bronzeit,  it's our first time dining there so you can imagine my excitement.  It was crowded when we came and we're lucky to get a table.  I love the contemporary vibe!  Floor to ceiling windows, lots of light, German inspired wooden tables & benches, a long wooden beer bar which serves German beers of course. You can also dine in al fresco just a few feet away from the sea.

Hubby & I are not beer drinkers (well I do drink once in a blue moon) so we focused more on what's on the food menu. They serve the widest selection of pure German beers in Singapore by the way.

Here's what we feast on...
Schweinshanx or Pork Knuckle - Crispy hind shank of grain fed pork served with potato salad, sauerkraut with brown sauce on the side.
Here's a close-up...I'm actually drooling now just looking at it.  I will definitely come back just to eat this.  The skin is crispy and the meat is moist and tender.  I love the sauerkraut and they are not stingy with it.
You know when your hubby loves you...he gives you the best part!
We have to try some German sausages so, we ordered an appetiser of Kasekrainer or Mini Pork Cheese Sausages.  Not your ordinary cheese sausage it's juicy (juice just oozed out on every bite), crunchy and not too cheesy.   They also serve sausage platters as a meal that comes with sauerkraut and potato salad.
Now this one is extra special because it's really, really good!  Kalbsramgulasch or Veal Goulash - Traditional braised veal shank "Goulash" in paprika sauce with butter spatzle.  The meat just melts in your mouth, it's so tender and the sauce is just amazingly yummy.
Spatzle is a Bavarian specialty.  They are like little dumplings which made of flour, eggs & salt.  Some add cheese & parsley to it but traditionally they just pan fried the dumplings with butter and served as a side dish.
We wanted to try the other dishes in the menu but we'll just keep that in mind until our next visit.  Im sure the Wiener Schnitzel and Apple Strudel can wait.

A Restaurant called Porn - Sexy Thai Food

As usual, hubby & I discovered this restaurant by chance whilst searching for a place to eat after work along Upper East Coast Road.  Lots of places to eat there we just cant decide what to eat!  So cruisin' along with grumbling tummies, we found Porn.  Owned by Singapore Mediacorp Artiste Pornsak Prajakwit, the Jamie Oliver of Asia...that's what it says in the web.  To be honest, I never heard of him until after I googled him. Porn actually means "blessings & good wishes" in Thai.

So here's what we had...
Thai Coconut Juice
We shared a bowl of Tom Yum Nam Khon or Tom Yum Kung with Coconut Milk.
These lemongrass skewered prawns looks yummy & it does only that the prawns came a bit raw. You can actually see some translucent meat & we only realized after we each ate a piece. Manager was notified, no discount though but he offered us complimentary fruits.  Fair enough but I'd rather get a discount.  It was an explosion of flavor, spicy, citrus goodness of lime & lemongrass.  Almost perfect if only it's been cooked well...I was a bit disappointed.  I'm too nice though, I'll give it a second chance.
Stir Fried Minced Pork with Basil & Chillies
I can't remember the name of this Crab dish...it's delish & the sauce is not as rich as looks in the photo. It's actually mildly sweet & tangy & I love the julienned green mango on top as garnish.

Overall food experience was fairly good. I don't mind trying the prawn skewers again  hopefully perfectly well done & try other dishes.  I  heard the Thai Green Curry is good.  But hubby was not impressed at all & it may take some serious convincing for him to come back soon.

Yang Gui Fei on Smith Street

Tucked in the food street of Chinatown is Yang Gui Fei.  Hubby & I discovered this Chinese restaurant during one of our after work hunger pangs. We keep coming back whenever there's a craving for their super tender melt in your mouth Gui Fei Lamb Ribs & my fave Hot & Sour Soup with Dumplings.
China with its many regions have different regional Chinese food.  This is not your typical Chinese food stop where you go when you crave for some Sweet & Sour Pork or  Peking Duck.  There are a few restaurants popping out in Singapore that serves regional Chinese food such as this.  So if you want to try a different Chinese food & is adventurous enough, you might want to check Yang Gui Fei out.
We started off with a cold dish of Marinated Hot Spicy Chicken.  It's not as spicy as it looks but it gives a good kick & a numbing tingle on your palette.  I think it's because of a spice called huājiāo meaning flower pepper & is often called the Sichuan pepper.  The sauce is sour & spicy in a good way.
This is one of my favorite among many others.  Dumplings in Hot & Sour Soup or what it actually says in the menu Jiaozi Boiled in Sour-Soup.   It's a meal on its own,  I'm happy just to eat this glorious bowl of dumplings for lunch.   If you love hot  & sour then you'll enjoy every slurp of it.
Gui Fei Royal Lamb Ribs.  Our all time favorite & we crave for it every now & then.   Crispy crunch on your first bite & meat oh so tender it melts in your mouth on your second bite.  Although I think that the ribs has gone smaller than usual.
Hot & Sour Rice Noodles - This bowl of noodles may not look as appetizing as in the picture but its wonderfully spicy & sourish.  The noodles are firm & chewy almost al dente.  It's like the noodles have been marinated in the sauce for quite some time that all the flavors just bursts into your mouth.  The texture of the sauce can be compared to a much thinner beef stew sauce.
The last bowl of goodness is called Beef Slices in Hot & Sour Soup.  Thinly sliced beed in hot & sour nutty sauce (at least that's what I think it taste like).  This dish I can do without but hubby seems to like it.   We left with happy tummies!  All the dishes may all sound the same but each has its own unique taste & flavor.

Are you ready for Yang Gui Fei?

My Weekend Part 3 - Yummy Crabs

We celebrated Father's Day, mum-in law's & hubby's birthday at home with fresh Sri Lankan crabs from House of Seafood @ 180. Hubby & I drove to Cosford Road to tar-pow (take away) two big crabs cooked in two different sauces. Chilli Crab in slurpilicious chilli sauce goodness & Butter Crab which I can only describe as delish up to the last claw. We also ordered stir fried kai-lan (Chinese broccoli), crispy deep fried baby squid, black pepper crayfish & some pan fried bee hoon.
Butter Crab on top & below is obviously the Chilli Crab.

I think that the best way to eat crabs is at home where you can get as messy as you want.   We actually had crabs a week before this & I don't think I'll have crabs anytime soon.   I'm on my chilli crab break! But you see, as I am typing this post I can't help but crave for crabs!
Giant meaty claws to feast on!
My favorite Crispy Fried Baby Squid.  Crispiness to the max!
My father-in-law's favorite, Crayfish in Black Pepper Sauce.
Overall, it was a wonderful pleasant dinner.  Not overly filling yet satisfying.  I prefer the butter crab as I find the Chilli crab a bit too spicy.  The butter crab got this creamy butter sauce underneath that you can dip in a slice of French roll or any piece of bread for some yummy goodness.  Same goes with the Chilli crab the sauce is the most important key to this dish.

There are a lot of Chilli Crab Restaurants/Seafood Restaurants in Singapore that it's just a matter of finding the best ones.  If you go to East Coast Seafood Centre alone there's about 8 seafood restaurants that serves the best seafood in town.

Here are two of my favorite Chilli Crab stop:
